THE GENERATION GAP by Lynn Terrell

It’s Birthday Week. On Saturday. The day of my 30th high
school reunion. The day I turn -- Well, less than fifty!
Even now, I’ve noticed that the generation gap seems to
be widening.

Recently, I watched a concert on PBS, while our daughter
read in silence. When the choir director took his final
bow, I suddenly screamed, pointed excitedly at the
screen and exclaimed, "Oh look! I sang in a choir he
directed when I was only 15!"

Our daughter answered matter-of-factly, hardly glancing
up from her book, "Cool. Who is that old man, anyway?"
Surprised that she didn’t recognize him, I smugly replied,
"Why, it's Mitch Miller!" -- knowing how thrilled she
would be to once again get to catch a glimpse of this
Maestro of Musical Americana.
"Who's Mitch Miller?" she responded casually, widening
even more that great divide we call THE GENERATION GAP!

It was just a few years ago that our children were
grabbing desperately for a viable solution to closing
that painful gap between their childhood and our grave.
In desperation, our son tried to reason with us.
"I think we would go a long way in communicating on a
more equitable level if you'd stop introducing me to
your ‘Homey’ as The Product of Your Loins."

He may have a point. Old habits die hard, but we're
trying. In fact, we now introduce him simply as
"The Product." A few weeks ago, The Product produced
a fresh, 10 pound Bi-Product. Somehow I sense the
generation gap is finally closing in around us --
whether we want it too, or not!

Life's Theft

Often in life I choose a goal
And proceed to play my role.
If life's goal from me didn't hide
I'd never have agreed to its stride.
If we knew of life's theft
None would have come, stayed, or left.
Our mortal shells, a temporal Show
Eternal souls eternally glow.

"GOD'S BEAUTY"
By Colleen Duval

As I walked across the beautiful College Campus where I work,
the sun was shining and there was a cool breeze in the air.
I noticed how captivating the flowers were and how vibrant
the green grass looked on the campus mounds. I also notice
how artistic the beautiful blue sky was with their white
fluffy clouds. As I continued to walk across this breath
taking view, I was reminded of God's glorious nature and his
magnificent creation.

Another realization came to me as I was admiring this gorgeous
day, Yes, God has given us all this beauty that surround us
but he also gave us the gift of life. I am so thankful everyday
that I am given another day to be with my loved ones, for they
are so very precious to me.

As a little girl I remember admiring the colorful blue skies
and the clouds looked so soft and white as cotton, I use to
think Angels surely rested on those clouds. I also remember
thinking, how powerful and magnificent God must be! And you
know what? He is!

As I look back at my life and see how God has been with me
every step of the way. I was born premature and I only
weighed 4 lbs. 2 oz. at birth. My Mom had a bad fall
during her pregnancy with me and I survived; God was
gracious to let me be born. When I was five years old
a doctor discovered I had a heart problem, God provided
me with a wonderful gifted doctor that saved my life!
When I was a teen, I had to have my left eardrum removed;
God gave me the strength to over come the pain of losing part of my hearing. Then at the age of twenty, I
unknowingly married an abusive man; God gave me the
strength and wisdom to make it through some life
threatening situations. After ten years of living in
constant fear, I realized it was time to end that marriage.
I do believe in God and that his Angels have protected me
throughout my life.

As I continue on in my journey in this life, I see God
did answer my prayers to be a strong Christian, not to
have to struggle anymore, and to share my life with a
wonderful Christian husband and to have a family. God
gave me John, my fantastic husband for the last five years.
Oh yes, God also blessed me with two precious boys, my
step-son, Ryan, who is fourteen years old, and our
beautiful adopted boy, Eric, who is two years old.

So, when I see all this beauty that surrounds me everywhere,
I am reminded that God created it all, the mountains,
the oceans, the sky, and the stars. God gave us all this
beauty for all of us to enjoy. If you just open your eyes
and open your heart, you will see God's beauty around you too!
